Earlier in 2023, we were pleased to recognise local community hero Gillian 'Gilly' Hagen as our Citizen of the Year for her work with Blidworth On The Move and work with Patient Participation for the Abbey Medical Group.
Now our recognition has been put in the pale since Gilly has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM)
Gilly was a key volunteer member in the redesign of cancer pathway services. continuing with her role despite the death of her husband from the disease.
She now runs support groups for people with long-term conditions, is the patient representative at the Newark and Sherwood District Council health and wellbeing forum, and is the NHS patient leader for Mid-Notts Clinical Commissioning Group.
Since its formation Gilly has supported Blidworth On The Move, a specialised transport service, specifically for the residents of Blidworth and the surrounding area. This voluntary service has an appropriately equipped vehicle that ensures the safety of the passenger, chaperone and driver at all times. Behind the scenes throughout Covid the volunteers have supported local people in so many ways not only at vaccination clinics etc. Now as we rebuild lives the charity is running groups and events and their vehicles are used to transport people to groups for the disabled, those with dementia as well as clinical, GP and hospital appointments.
Everyone at the club congratulates Gilly a this is a well deserved award.
