A sponsored walk in aid of 'End Polio Now' which was arranged by Sutton-in-Ashfield Rotary. Three Ravenshead & Blidworth Rotary members took part. From left to right: AG Mark Snape; President Richard Lord; Community Officer Michael Lee.
The walk for us started around lunchtime from Teversal Visitors Centre, Sunday 26 September. The day was pleasantly sunny with a good number of sponsored walkers.
The walk itself was slightly different from previous years as part of the planned circular route was blocked. Thus we walked from the Visitor's Centre to Pleasley Pit café, where volunteers had kindly kept the café open for refreshments. We returned along the same route totalling a little over 5 miles in all. The walk is in the countryside, off road, along disused railway tracks where rails, sleepers and undergrowth have been cleared. Easy walking for anyone who is interested.
With some matched funding and support from the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation we contributed around £500 to 'End Polio Now'.
PS. Look out for explosions of purple crocuses near you. They signify the purple marker used for all immunised children across 122 countries.
