Citizen of the Year 2021

Every year Ravenshead and Blidworth Rotary seek to recognise an individual or group within the community that have consistently made a valuable contribution that is not widely recognised, so that we can highlight their contribution and recognise their efforts.

On Wednesday 21st July, The Rotary Club of Ravenshead and Blidworth held its first formal meeting for almost 18 months at Oakmere Golf Club to make this years annual award of Citizen of the year.

This year the award was presented to Mark Bradbury, Butchers and Delicatessen. Mark was joined by his wife Maria as our guests for the evening, which was also attended by Martyn Bye, the Rotary District Governor of 2021 – 22.

Since Mark took over the shop, he has been a great advocate for supporting the local community and the efforts of numerous charitable organisations within the local area, often providing prizes and hampers for local raffles to raise funding for many causes over the years. He has always been a great supporter of our Rotary Sleigh each Christmas.

Since March 2020, with lockdown and all the ways the Pandemic has effected those within our local community, Mark has hardly taken any break from running the shop with the assistance of his staff, except when he himself had to isolate and was poorly with the virus.

During the last eighteen months he has been actively involved with ensuring food was available, and able to be delivered by working also with Ravenshead Community Transport, (a former Organisational Group Winner of our Citizen of the Year Award). He has also not only donated to our local foodbanks, he has been actively assisting them with acquiring supplies from national food distributors so that they could make best use of the funds that we and others had donated as cash to help them buy food.

We at Ravenshead and Blidworth are proud to recognise Mark, and his team, for all their efforts in support of our local community as our Rotary Citizen of the Year 2021.
